  • Hicksi

    The Hicks Yew (Taxus x media 'Hicksii') is our most popular taxus shrub prized for its narrow, columnar growth habit. This makes it an excellent choice for creating dense hedges, privacy screens, or even living fences.  

    Hicks Yew boasts dark green, needle-like foliage that remains attractive year-round. It's relatively low-maintenance, tolerating a range of soil conditions and varying light levels, from full sun to partial shade.

    This slow-growing shrub can reach heights of 10 to 12 ft. tall, 3 to 4 ft. wide., making it a long-lasting and impactful addition to any landscape.

  • Select

    Taxus Select (Taxus x media 'Select') is our most popular taxus shrub prized for its narrow, upright pyramidal growth. Often to 20' tall by 5' wide (can be 40' tall by 10' wide under optimum conditions), can be limbed up to reveal its purplish-red-brown exfoliating bark.

    Found at entranceways, large foundations, and as a specimen shrub Grown from cuttings of an upright Taxus cuspidata 'Capitata'. Our ‘Select’ variety maintains its evergreen foliage density to the ground as it grows and is an excellent choice for creating dense hedges, privacy screens, or even living fences.  

    It's relatively low-maintenance, tolerating a range of soil conditions and varying light levels, from full sun to partial shade.

  • Fastigata (Irish Yew)

    Robusta grows to 10ft. tall and 2 to 3ft. wide in a narrow tapering cylindrical form.

  • Grandifolia

    The Grandifolia bigleaf Anglo-Japanese yew (Taxus media x 'Grandifolia') is a hardy, evergreen shrub that thrives in shade and tolerates pollution.

    This hybrid, resulting from the cross of two yew species, boasts large dark foliage. Growing 10-15 feet tall with a narrow, columnar vase shape, and up to 2ft to 3ft. wide near the top. It's perfect for creating dense screens, formal hedges, or unique topiaries.

  • Pilaris

    The Taxus x media 'Pilaris', also known as the Columnar Anglo-Japanese Yew, is a striking evergreen shrub renowned for its upright, columnar growth habit. This hybrid, a cross between the English Yew (Taxus baccata) and the Japanese Yew (Taxus cuspidata), inherits the best qualities of both parents.

    'Pilaris' typically matures to a height of 15-20 feet with a narrow spread of only 3-5 feet, making it an ideal choice for tight spaces, foundation plantings, or as a striking vertical accent in the landscape. Its dense, dark green foliage provides year-round interest, while its slow growth rate allows for easy maintenance and control of its size.

    This adaptable shrub thrives in a variety of conditions, tolerating both full sun and partial shade. It is also relatively drought-tolerant once established, though it prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil.     Runyan grows 4ft to 8ft tall and 6ft. to 10 ft. wide.

    Taxus 'Everlow' (Taxus × media 'Everlow') is a very low-growing evergreen shrub that thrives in a variety of conditions. Only reaching 1.5ft high and up to 4-5ft wide it is easily grown in average, well-drained soil. It tolerates both full sun and deep shade, making it a fantastic choice for shady areas. While it prefers moist, sandy loams, it's crucial to avoid wet soil as this can be detrimental. This adaptable shrub thrives in urban environments and benefits from protection from harsh winter winds.
